About the Special Education Department

Special Ed.

Welcome to the Special Education Department

The Special Education Department at Narragansett High School plays a vital role in ensuring that every student, regardless of their unique challenges or disabilities, has access to an equitable, supportive, and meaningful educational experience. Our purpose is to provide individualized instruction, tailored accommodations, and necessary support services that empower students to reach their full academic, social, and personal potential.

Through a collaborative effort involving teachers, support staff, families, and the students themselves, Special Education fosters an inclusive environment where differences are respected and strengths are nurtured. It helps students develop essential life skills, prepare for post-secondary education or employment, and become confident, contributing members of their communities.

At its core, Special Education in high school is not just about addressing learning difficulties—it is about recognizing each student’s abilities, promoting self-advocacy, and paving the way for a future filled with opportunities and success.

Life Skills Program

The Life Skills program focuses on equipping students with the practical skills needed for daily living and future independence.  This includes personal hygiene, social skills, time management, emotional regulation, and financial literacy. The goal of the Life Skills program is to help students build independence, work towards paid employment, and become active participants in their communities.
